This is what I hate about the music industry today and they wonder why album sales are down. You release the 1st single off the album months before its released. You gain almost nothing by doing this. Hear a song on the radio and you can’t go buy the album for months. Casual listeners who may have bought the album are lost. Then they release a 2nd single before the album is even out. How dumb is that. It’s like they are trying to piss you off. The 1st single should be released 2-3 weeks before album comes out. That way the single is still going strong WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY THE ALBUM.

The single is STILL going strong. It’s only now climbing the major charts (hot 100, top 40) and has topped the mainstream rock and got to #5 on the modern rock chart. So that part of your claim makes no sense man.

And this promotes the sale of SINGLES and ring-tones, which is where the real money is at for the industry bosses, due to the decreased album sales. The trend was started by the hip-hop branch of the industry, which uses these patterns to enormous success.

You don’t make money off selling a single for 99 cents. You make money selling albums. How’s the hip-hop industry doing these days? That’s what I thought. Dead.

The idea around releasing a single so far in advance is to hopefully let it get as high as possible on the radio charts. Gets a lot of buzz going about the new album coming out.

I believe that was part of the reason why the album was delayed to start with.

Republic knows what they are doing…

hip-hop industry is dead? hip-hop albums are the ONLY ones selling well; see Kanye West, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey as prime examples of enormous first week sales. and by the time a million ring tones are sold, they make alot of money, considering the costs are minimal, if at all, to shorten a song to a 15 second clip… Just rebutting the debate =]
