Since the release of “Money Honey”, the first single from their sophomore album ‘Life, Love & Lies‘, State of Shock have become the story of the year at Canadian radio from Victoria to St. John’s. “Money Honey” has won the band a Canadian Juno Award Nomination for New Group of the Year, two Canadian Radio Music Awards in the category of Best New Group for both Rock and CHR formats, as well as a Canadian Indie Music Award for Favourite Single of the Year. The single has reached the platinum sales mark for digital sales in Canada and the band is enjoying a top-ten slot at Much Music and rock radio with its second single “Hearts That Bleed”.
Pretty heady stuff for a band that a year ago was wondering what the future held. They believed in themselves and made a commitment to each other and to the music that has brought them to this point. Investing all the money they made in their day jobs as well as all the credit they could get takes a serious amount of courage. Even with fancy computer programs and home recording equipment it still takes a lot of money to record an album as good as ‘Life, Love & Lies‘. Top producer Jeff Dawson and great studios like the legendary Mushroom/Hipposonic & Bryan Adams’ Warehouse are in great demand and don’t come cheaply. One listen to the resulting album, though, proves it was worth it. ‘Life, Love & Lies‘ is full of great Pop/Rock songs with double hooks, wicked guitar lines and a driving bottom end that makes you move, even when you’re sitting down.
Shortly after the release of “Money Honey” to radio, word of a possible tour with Nickelback reached the band and they set about winning that opportunity. The boys from Nickelback came to the ‘Life, Love & Lies‘ CD release party in Vancouver to see them play and before the night was over Chad could be seen on the dance floor singing along to “Money Honey” and the gig was theirs.
Two weeks after ‘Life, Love & Lies‘ was released they set off for St. John’s to begin six weeks opening for Nickelback on all of their Canadian tour dates. Additionally, they brought their show to every club and hideaway along the road, including the high profile gig at Sarnia Bayfest, appearing as the set up for Aerosmith in front of 27,000 people.
State of Shock is proving to be a hot item in the music scene with their contagious sound and high energy performances. Catch them this summer as they co-headline with Econoline Crush at a venue near you.

Ho-hum. Too bland, watered down, over produced. The monotony of it drives me crazy. Been disappointed in the Featured Bands lately.

They’re okay. I am with Nate though… it’s bland. All the songs start sounding the same after awhile.

Wow, they really shouldn’t let that girl sing. Her voice is awful, it sounds like a midget is singing. “Money Honey” is a good song but I don’t like the rest.

hahahaha. Mike, the tracks were sampled at an improper rate for our player and it was playing in sort of a fast-forward, thus the chipmunk voice you heard.

“Honeymoon’s Over” starting at the 00:32 mark is awfully similar to the chorus in Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want To Be”…..

I really like State of Shock but this album was pretty poor compared to their first one (Guilty by Association). Listen to “Wish I Never Met You” or “If I Could”. Those are great songs.

Aha! I wondered if they were going to go down to the sweet US of Eh. The album wasn’t bad, but things could’ve been done better besides the title cut, Money Honey, Hearts that Bleed, and Stupid. Those tracks stood out as the best I’ve heard than owing the whole album.

Love Love Love this band and this CD! GBA was also amazing! Sooo proud to say that SoS is Canadian!! They’ve got a great, new, fresh sound which is a nice change from everything else that’s out there today! :)

State of Shock is certainly not bland!! See them live and you’ll understand. Absolutely LOVE this band and both albums! Favorites are Rolllin’, Different Day, Hearts That Bleed, Too pretty, If I Could, Wish I Never Met you….
