Oh boy, he didn’t mention Venture. I guess that means that screaming mimi will spam this with a bunch of Venture reviews just like he did when he spammed the review I gave of them.

Comment from Peter

On A Dead Machine is AMAZING. I live here in memphis and they put on one hell of a live show!!! I love that band.

Another unsigned band,

Amaru(Former Burn Season and Shinedown Member)

Comment from JasonPaar
Date: January 6, 2008, 11:47 pm

I think Venture has gotten enough mention on this site as it is. Maybe we can use this to bring about some more bands that haven’t been mentioned.

Comment from Meagan
Date: January 7, 2008, 5:36 am

I agree with Jason. Everyone here knows who Venture is. I don’t think we need a link to “check them out”.

btw, isn’t Resident Hero signed to a label? We saw them open for Flyleaf sometime last year.

Comment from Jay
Date: January 7, 2008, 7:46 am

Jeez, all I did was ask the question. For the record, they get no more mention than any other of our past featured bands do. If they show up more often in news postings, it’s only because they have more news. We actually haven’t mentioned them once at least since the new design. I think the last mention was Mike’s review.

Comment from harty3113
Date: January 7, 2008, 8:38 am

i know a band worthy of being here. but they always lose band members and need new ones. theyd be fine if they kept the same members. but i guess thats where they got their name “makeshifte”

Thanks guys, awesome list! Finally some new tunes for my ears..

Comment from Nick
Date: January 7, 2008, 10:28 am

yeah..didnt list venture cuz they do get alot of press on here, but theyre still pretty good

didnt do Amaru for the same reason

and REsident Hero is quite good!!!

Comment from Nate
Date: January 7, 2008, 11:37 am

Great idea and I commend Nick for putting this list together. However, this didn’t do anything for me. Only interested in 1 out of 25+ bands. Pretty bad percentage. Yes, I’m extremely critical, but still. Too much punk.

Comment from Sam
Date: January 7, 2008, 1:28 pm

Also, The American Tragedy

Great list though, I love checking out new bands.

Comment from Nate
Date: January 7, 2008, 2:18 pm

Pennies from The American Tragedy was amazing. Back when they appeared on Farmclub.com TV show on USA Network.

Comment from Sox5452
Date: January 7, 2008, 3:55 pm

I agree Nate, there were a lot of alternative bands on here. There are only about 3 bands I’m interested in, not that the others are bad, I guess it’s more just my tastes. Still, good idea with this list Nick

Comment from youknow
Date: January 7, 2008, 7:33 pm

I’ve been waiting for a list like this. Even the Canadian ones are included. I’m impressed. Should do this more often.

Comment from meade
Date: January 7, 2008, 7:39 pm

If it’s done more often, the quality would get pretty watered down. Nice job Nick.

Comment from nato

Resident Hero is NOT signed. They just happened to be friends with Lacey Mosley before Flyleaf got signed. Ryan White sings on ‘So I Thought’. They got on the Flyleaf tour (as well as the Fair to Midland tour) because they were friends with the bands but they should get signed as they are amazing. they’re working on a new album right now that they’re putting out themselves because Virgin records turned them down.

Comment from jman3000
Date: January 9, 2008, 3:13 pm

Here’s a good unsigned band that isn’t listed.

Until We Rise (http://www.untilwerise.com/)

They were formerly known as Condition K. They’ve opened for a lot of big acts in the past (Shinedown, Breaking Ben, Saliva) and are still unsigned which is unvbelievable to me.

Comment from Lucas
Date: January 9, 2008, 8:32 pm

Resident Hero definitely deserves to be signed. We actually saw a few songs from them live on that Flyleaf tour last year when they came here. They rocked ass live and played “Vendetta Black”, which is my favorite song by them for the closer and I wanted MORE! Incredible band that are apparently just unlucky with the labels to this point. Hopefully they will get something soon.

Great list btw, Nick. Found a couple new bands I really like there and will try and find their albums. I used to love finding “unknown” (or lesser known) bands, but haven’t had the time since high school and stuff so it is cool to get a list of some bands I’ve not heard of before. I had eard of a few of them before, but for the most part it was a new listening experience. Thanks for putting it together.

Comment from The_Oracle
Date: January 10, 2008, 6:21 am

Again … no offense to Nick …. the initial post of upcoming / unsigned bands was a great idea, and i hadnt heard Paperback Hero before, and bought their cd straight away. I hope this list gives the hungry rock needers (aka Nate and Sox5452), something new to check out, i’m sure you, especially Nate has heard of some of these bands .. but hey … i got more … ; )

Comment from caro

Great work there Nick! Very interesting, and as already mentioned we don’t all have the time to decipher through all the new bands. Plus you are right that this concept brings you many new visitors… :)

RENO is definitely to keep on the radar… great music that is gaining much grounds in many countries…!

Oracle, those are some good bands on your list! I’m really digging Freestate, APG, Neverbetter and Uncrowned.

Comment from Nick

yeah ive seen uncrowned, not bad.neverbetter is a pretty big local band like an hour and a half away.them and closer are, well, close.

Comment from Nate

Pretty good list Oracle. Really impressive bands. You have more?

Comment from The_Oracle
Date: January 14, 2008, 5:41 am

Hey there,

Glad you were able to find some bands that you liked! I personally can’t stop listening to APG … their cd is available at cdbaby.com, and 16 tracks for $10 is a bargain!!!

As for having more bands … yeah i have too many to list but i’ll go ahead and give you another bunch that i can think of of the top of my head! However, i personally think it would be good if this site a section deicated to unsigned bands, where the readers can post bands they have discovered, after all they need our help and are just as diserving, if not more so then alot of major label bands.

One criticism i have for this site is that its all very well having a featured band each month but there are no follow ups … for example, no one was made aware when Downstream, and Haloscripts cd’s became available, i had to physically keep checking my self.

Out of interest has anyone heard of a band called Waking Season? They were a great upcoming band from Florida, but never released their debut, even though it was finished. It looks like all the members have dispersed and gone their seperate ways, but i wonder if there is a way to get my hands on that cd. or if anyone has it???

p.s …. i would love to hear your rccomended bands too ; )

Alright Oracle, got a desperate and somewhat far-fetched request. I really want the Vayden album, but as I already said, I can’t get it. You can however. What if I were send you the money for the album via PayPal, you buy the album on iTunes, and then I’ll setup a place where I can download it? I’m willing to take the risk you just taking the money without delivering. Let me know.
