The Eagles Turned Down The Super Bowl
The Eagles have turned down an offer to perform at next year’s Super Bowl, saying they’d rather perform at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.
Front-man Don Henley told the Associated Press that playing at the legendary country music venue “would be an honor,” but did not elaborate on his band’s decision to turn down the slot at the Super Bowl, which is the most watched television event in the U.S.

Wow, most bands would kill to be able to perform at the Super Bowl.

Even Henley knows younger bands should get a chance at TV. Its not like The Eagles need media promotion anyway..

I wish Linkin Park preformed at the Super Bowl. They have a CD that recently came out and they are probably the biggest band in rock.

I would say Nickelback is the biggest rock band of the 2000’s. LP is one of the bigger bands, but not the biggest.

The NFL isn’t going to use any younger bands/artists for a long time after the Janet Jackson incident. Looking at the past few years, its pretty clear that they are going to pick the oldest artists they possibly can.

Janet Jackson was even ancient then. I understand an older generation watches the super bowl .. but from a marketing standpoint too .. do not forget .. youth is heavily influence by sports .. shitty super bowls and advertising will decrease in revenues as the younger population will continue to watch super bowl episodes of family guy, simpsons, etc.
Not that its a real big deal .. but I’m pretty sure even older people are turned off by booking ancient old talent .. I hear it everywhere..

I disagree Jason. I don’t think the NFL is worried about Chester Bennington pulling down Mike Shinoda’s pants. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “younger band,” their probably just gonna avoid getting any of the bimbo sluts that sing on MTV.

I do agree that the NFL probably isn’t worried about anything Linkin Park would do onstage. However, from the standpoint of marketability and commercial appeal, having Prince, Tom Petty or The Eagles makes a lot more sense than Linkin Park. The crowd that watches the Superbowl is so diverse that you need to find someone that appeals to the average football fan as well as someone who doesn’t really listen to newer music.

And if Fallout Boy was playing, then they might have a concern for pants getting pulled down.

I don’t want another fiasco involving like what happened when Janet Jackson unveiled that dang “wardrobe malfunction” showing off her boob and pierced nipple in the process on tv that I would completely ignore. There are much better venues to host a legendary act in such legendary status like the Eagles. Super Bowl can kiss my ass! There are country and folk tones which wouldn’t suit to a younger audience anyways. I mean much younger like babies after generations would have seen them back in the seventies and this is post Y2K boom folks. Homosexuality? There are strict rules since the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake fiasco back in 2004. Let’s not go there, folks! Think of the kids that’re at stake.

Kids at stake?

I can’t disagree with Daughtry. Good for all ages, especially if the girls woo him. ^-^ He has a good voice on the radio lately. This is just to avoid that stupid wardrobe malfunction that Janet Jackson can’t seem to hang up to dry, aka “boob tube”. Hey kids, come and see my boobs — NOT!

yeh, daughtry would be probably the best choice and wouldn’t surprise me if he lands the gig after having the top selling album of the year.

He would be a good choice but the NFL already picked Tom Petty for this year.

Tom Petty has had a pretty good outing lately and a wise choice. Now I can’t wait till he comes on-air and hear about the good news afterwards, hmmm?
